The Safe Drinking Water Act
In January 2014, the “Reduction of Lead in Water Act” went into effect to amend section 1417 of the Safe Drinking Water Act. The law reduces the permissible levels of lead in the wetted surfaces of pipes, pipe fittings, plumbing fittings, and fixtures. It requires that every pipe, fixture, and fitting used to convey water for potable use contain less than 0.25% of lead by weight. You can learn more about the Safe Drinking Water Act here.
It's important to be able to identify lead free certifications in order to ensure you get the right valve for the job. The EPA created a handy guide, which you can find here, in order to determine what certifications you should look for to identify a lead free product. All of our products that are lead free are categorized on our site and come with various certifications to denote lead free status, such as IAPMO NSF 372. Buyers who are looking for lead free valves are presented with a range of allowable materials, including, but not limited to, lead free brass, plastic or stainless steel.
